BREAKING: Lakurawa Terrorists Ambush Nigerian Federal Lawmaker’s Convoy, Kill Soldier, Injure Several Others

In a deadly attack on Wednesday, heavily armed Lakurawa terrorists ambushed the convoy of a Nigerian federal lawmaker along a major highway in the country’s northern region, killing one soldier and injuring several others, including aides to the lawmaker.

According to security sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of the day when the lawmaker, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, was returning from an official engagement. The convoy reportedly came under heavy gunfire from the terrorists, who had laid an ambush near a forested stretch notorious for previous attacks.

“The assailants opened fire from both sides of the road,” a security officer familiar with the situation told reporters. “The troops attached to the convoy responded immediately, leading to a fierce gun battle that lasted for several minutes.”

Unfortunately, one soldier was killed in the exchange, while several others sustained varying degrees of injury. The lawmaker was said to have escaped unhurt after being swiftly evacuated by his security detail.

Local residents said the attackers fled into the bush after reinforcement arrived from a nearby military base. The area has since been cordoned off as troops intensify pursuit of the fleeing gunmen.

The Lakurawa terrorist group, notorious for banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on security formations across parts of northern Nigeria, has in recent months escalated its assaults despite ongoing military operations.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but sources within the National Assembly described the attack as “a direct threat to the safety of public officials” and called for “urgent, decisive action to dismantle terrorist cells across the region.”

As of press time, the Nigerian Army had not released the names of the slain and injured personnel, while security operations to track down the perpetrators continue.
